MAiD Insights

About

Medical assistance in dying (MAiD) is a health care service in Canada available to patients who are experiencing grievous and irremediable suffering. Once an applicant has been approved for MAiD, a physician or nurse practitioner can administer or prescribe a lethal substance to hasten the patient’s death. As MAiD policies and practices continue to evolve and change, there are a number of ethical complexities to explore.

On this site, we provide insights into our team’s research findings on MAiD in Canada. You can access our academic publications, relevant media, lay language reports, and other MAiD-related resources. Content for this site comes from Dr. Julia Brassolotto (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Alessandro Manduca-Barone (Research Associate)’s research on MAiD. This work received funding from Alberta Innovates, a SSHRC Insight Development Grant, and a SSHRC Insight Grant.
